While the official release of Starfield is scheduled for September 6th, buyers of the Premium or Constellation editions were able to begin their adventure today—or yesterday in America. To the surprise of many, the game is making waves on Steam.
In its first two hours of availability, Starfield gathered 230,000 concurrent players on Steam, an astonishing figure that demonstrates the immense anticipation that Bethesda’s new game has generated.
The figure is even more surprising because, despite Starfield becoming available on Xbox Game Pass next week, many people didn’t hesitate to open their wallets to purchase the more expensive editions and play it earlier.
It should be noted that the Premium and Constellation editions of Starfield are not exactly cheap. The former can be yours for €104.99 ($2,299 in Mexico), while the latter, which is also a collector’s item, goes up to €299.99 ($8,399 in Mexico, although it can be obtained for a lower price by importing it).
There has been much talk about Xbox Game Pass having a negative impact on the market, with fewer players willing to pay the full price for a game. Undoubtedly, it is more attractive to pay a monthly subscription and have access to over a hundred titles.
However, in the case of Starfield, we have not seen this situation, at least on PC. It is clear that even with the convenience offered by a service like Xbox Game Pass, when a game is highly anticipated, money is not a barrier.
Even though the expectations surrounding Starfield before its release were very high, the adventure is not disappointing. Most agree that Bethesda has managed to bring the fun of Fallout or The Elder Scrolls to space, complete with the same complex systems that support it as an RPG.
One surprising aspect, especially considering Bethesda’s previous track record, is that Starfield has very few bugs. In the past, we saw titles like Fallout 76, Fallout 4, and even the acclaimed Skyrim debut with a notable amount of technical issues, which were resolved through updates.
However, with Starfield, they have taken the time to launch it in the best possible condition. Remember that it was delayed for almost a whole year? Well, this is the result. Xbox couldn’t afford another stumble after the recent failure of Redfall.
