Sea of Stars Knows No Exclusivity Boundaries, Demonstrated as the First Game to Arrive on Both Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus at Launch

One of the many attractions of current subscription services lies in the possibility of accessing newly released titles. PS Plus has shown us this with examples like Tchia, while Xbox Game Pass has done the same with a good handful of releases, including the upcoming Starfield. However, it had never coincidentally occurred that a game not tied to Microsoft and Sony would simultaneously debut on both services, at least until the arrival of Sea of Stars.

We had known for a while that the creators of The Messenger also intended to launch their RPG-style game on August 29th for PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series, and Xbox Game Pass. However, PlayStation surprised us today by announcing a list of 17 titles set to land on PS Plus Extra and Premium, including the beautiful adventure of Sea of Stars, also with a planned arrival on the same launch day.

This means that beyond the mentioned platforms, Sea of Stars will be available on both Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus at launch. This is the first time such a coincidence has occurred, as the monthly and bimonthly selections of both services had never offered the same title on ‘day 1’. At most, and after looking back through the archives, we find that Deathloop arrived on both Microsoft and Sony platforms on September 20th, but its landing occurred a year after its release.

What’s Sea of Stars About?

If you’re looking to experience a beautiful RPG available on Xbox Game Pass or PS Plus Extra, you might be interested in the concept of Sea of Stars. In a nutshell, it’s a turn-based role-playing game that draws inspiration from the genre’s grandest deliveries, offering a captivating, nostalgic story filled with unexpected twists. Of course, you can also expect more modern combat mechanics compared to titles of the past, substantial exploration elements, and even interaction with the environment.
