Rockstar has officially announced Red Dead Redemption for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, a version that has been rumored for some time. However, it’s not a complete remake or remaster but rather closer to a re-release. Several videos have compared the trailer to the original game played using Xbox’s backward compatibility. It will be available digitally on August 17th and physically on October 13th, priced at €49.99.
The game on the new platforms, developed by Double Eleven, is far from the kind of update some fans were expecting—for example, with a leap to the game engine of Red Dead Redemption 2. However, we can see that there are small differences in lighting and textures compared to the title released in 2010 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
“Experience the epic Wild West adventure, Red Dead Redemption, and its groundbreaking horror and zombie sequel, Undead Nightmare,” announced Rockstar Games yesterday. “In a new conversion by Double Eleven Studios, the versions for Switch and PS4 bring together the two classic experiences so that both new players and original fans can enjoy them on modern consoles.”
Red Dead Redemption tells the story of former outlaw John Marston as he travels through the vast territories of the American West and Mexico to track down the remaining members of the infamous Van der Linde gang in an attempt to save his family. “Relive, or experience for the first time, the events that transpired after the epic tale of honor and loyalty in the successful 2018 game Red Dead Redemption 2, as Marston hunts down his former friends and outlaws Bill Williamson, Javier Escuella, and Dutch van der Linde, the leader of his former gang, during the end of the cowboy era,” says the publisher.
It also includes Undead Nightmare, the story expansion that reinvents the world of Red Dead Redemption, where Marston fights to survive a relentless zombie horde and seeks a cure in a supernatural twist on the Western genre. For the first time, translations in languages such as Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Korean, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and Latin American Spanish are included.
