Eiji Aonuma, producer of The Legend of Zelda series, has granted an interview to Famitsu almost four months after the successful release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for the Switch. In that interview, he discussed the future of Nintendo’s saga.
“The reason we decided to make a sequel to the previous game was that we thought it was valuable to experience gameplay in that Hyrule,” he says regarding Tears of the Kingdom, which is set in the same universe as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Will we see another sequel in the same style? Aonuma responds: “If that reason is reborn, it is possible that we will return to the same world again. Whether it’s a sequel or something new, I think it will be a completely new game, so I hope you look forward to it.”
Obviously, Eiji Aonuma didn’t want to give any hints about what the next installment of the series could entail: “I’m thinking about what the ‘next fun experience’ will be. I can only say that we don’t know what form it will take at the moment.” What he did make clear in that interview is that there are no plans for DLC for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: “There are no plans for more content. I think I’ve created all the games I could in that world,” he said.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available exclusively on the Switch.
