Masashi Kishimoto opens his heart. The author of Naruto has gone viral again these days due to an interview in which he talks about the origins of the manga and his particular relationship with One Piece. According to Kishimoto himself, Eiichiro Oda has been something like his Sasuke. The mangaka behind the Straw Hat Pirates has always been the mirror he looked at, the person whose trail he pursued, his rival.
“One Piece debuted a year before Naruto, although Eiichiro Oda and I are the same age. At first, I was very envious, but at the same time, I felt a tremendous desire to surpass him. So, in a way, I think the reason Naruto was published and became successful is One Piece.”
It’s worth remembering that Boruto returns in August (here’s the date and time of the next episode’s premiere) after a 4-month hiatus, and it comes with a time skip and a name change. The series will no longer be called Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, but it will be known as Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. Kishimoto will try to mark a new beginning similar to the one between Naruto and Naruto Shippuden.
Considering that Boruto became a rogue ninja at the end of the last episode, and Sarada awakened the Mangekyou Sharingan, we can’t wait to see what has become of both of them. It’s as if the new generation of Uzumaki and Uchiha is destined to repeat the history of their parents, but in reverse. Instead of Naruto chasing after Sasuke and wanting to become Hokage, now it’s Sarada who is looking for Boruto and yearns to become the leader of Konoha.
The return of Boruto marks the beginning of an eventful end of the year for Naruto fans. In addition to the manga’s advance, there’s a new spin-off manga based on Minato (already available to read), the return of the original Naruto anime with 4 special episodes (which also have a release date), and a new video game from the series, Naruto x Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm CONNECTIONS, of which we should have news soon, as it will be released in 2023. Perhaps at Gamescom?
