Although many people have switched to WhatsApp voice messages, ‘traditional’ calls remain the default method for talking to someone; even if our devices are ‘smart,’ they are still phones, after all.
But even traditional phone calls have changed. Thanks to the features available on all Android phones, we can access a series of advantages such as Google’s spam call detection, which can save us in many situations.
Now, Google has launched a new feature that can be more amusing: a new way to set a custom ringtone for each of our contacts. It’s something that was already possible, but now it has its own dedicated section.
It’s a new section in the Contacts app that allows us to add custom ringtones and associate them with any of the contacts saved on the phone.
To access this new section, we simply need to open the Contacts app on our mobile device and enter the ‘Correct and manage’ section in the bottom bar. Then, in the ‘Other tools’ section, we will find a new option called ‘Contact Ringtones’.
Upon entering, we can tap on ‘Add ringtone to contact’; it will open the list of contacts saved on the mobile device, and we simply need to choose the one we want. Finally, the sound selector will open, allowing us to choose from the various ringtones we have on the phone.
The new option is already appearing for the first users of Android who have the Contacts app updated to the latest available version. We have verified that version 4.27.26.615093907 already includes this new section; if we don’t have the latest version of the app, we can search for updates on Google Play, or wait. As usual, these updates are rolled out progressively to all users.
This is one of those changes that may seem small but can be very helpful if we often change the ringtone for each contact; it allows us to easily know who is calling without needing to pick up the phone or look at the screen. The new section displays all contacts with personalized ringtones; in the list, we can change the tone or press the delete button to revert the ringtone to the default one on the phone.
