Assassin’s Creed Mirage will mark a return to the roots of the franchise in many aspects, and one of them is the progression system. It will leave behind the level-ups and experience increases that we’ve seen in Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, to return to something more traditional.
This has been revealed in a development diary video shared by Ubisoft. “Basim’s story continues to evolve from an apprentice to a mentor, a journey that is reflected in the gameplay systems,” says Stéphane Boudon, creative director, in the video. “There is no experience-based progression in Mirage, the progression is linear and driven by the story. As you progress through it and complete missions, your rank in the Brotherhood increases, giving you new opportunities for missions, outfits, and tools.”
However, there will be a skill tree, including some abilities that Basim can automatically roll upon landing, slow down time while aiming from the air, or kick an enemy after a parry, all unlockable through skill points. However, expect something much simpler than what we’ve seen in the last three main entries of the series.
This will be good news for those who found certain moments in those games tedious, where they had to grind for experience to access certain missions and abilities.
“We have new tools for Basim that can be upgraded and customized, giving him a deadly and effective Assassin’s set,” Boudon continues. “When fully upgraded, these tools allow for some unexpected gameplay strategies. We have also created a wide range of outfits for Basim, so that you can feel it as something personal.”
Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be released on October 12th for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC.
