Announced: Gex Trilogy for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC

Limited Run Games has announced a new collaboration with Square Enix to release Gex Trilogy on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam). As the name suggests, it is a compilation that will include the first Gex game, Gex: Enter the Gecko, and Gex 3: Deep Covert Gecko. The release date has not been announced, but a trailer has been shared:

The three titles that make up the Gex trilogy were originally available on the original PlayStation, with the first game also being released for 3DO, PC, and SEGA Saturn. The second and third games were also launched for Nintendo 64 and Game Boy Color. The franchise sold over 15 million units worldwide at the time, and the first installment is generally considered the best.

A brief overview of the franchise’s history

“The first installment was a 2D platformer developed by Crystal Dynamics (it was their fourth game when they were not yet the recognized studio they are today) and was well-received by critics and the public. It was released in 1995 for 3DO and the following year for PlayStation, Saturn, and PC. In those years, the explosion of 3D platformers began, so the next two installments, Gex: Enter the Gecko (1998; Game Boy Color, Nintendo 64, PC, and Game Boy Color) and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko (1999; PlayStation, Nintendo 64, and Game Boy Color) opted for 3D platforming, except for the Game Boy versions,” as we reported in previous news.
