The Upcoming Change Brought by Samsung Galaxy S24 Will Bring Controversy: You’ll Either Love It or Hate It

The relationship between Samsung and Apple is one of the most contentious and peculiar in the history of the technology sector. Despite their mutual interdependence, both companies have not hesitated to engage in major legal battles over alleged plagiarism and copying of their technologies and devices.

This battle has spilled over into the market. In 2023, Samsung struck first, but it is expected that Apple will counter aggressively with the iPhone 15, the first to feature a USB-C connection like most other smartphones.

In this situation, Samsung’s next move might be the most surprising one yet: a complete change in the design of its flagship phones, reverting to flat edges instead of the curved edges that have characterized the lineup until now.

This is how the Galaxy S24 might look

Indeed, this means that the Galaxy S24 will resemble the iPhone more closely than it has for quite a few years. If confirmed, this decision will undoubtedly spark controversy and likely stoke the flames between Samsung and Apple enthusiasts.

The information comes from a source known for accurate leaks, Ice Universe, who claims that the result of the flat edges on the new Samsung phones will resemble the design of the Meizu 20. Ironically, this Chinese phone looks like a fusion of Samsung and Apple’s current design lines: on one hand, the camera module appears directly inspired by the Galaxy S23, while the edges and the rest of the device draw from the iPhone 14.

An important detail is that the new design would only be applied to the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ models. The Ultra model would remain unaffected, and therefore, it’s conceivable that it will continue with the “Note” design that many users requested when that lineup was discontinued. One possible explanation for this exception is that the S24 Ultra will still use a curved screen, which would be difficult to combine with flat edges. However, the other two models in the lineup use flat displays, which align much better with a flat side design.

Aside from the similarities to Apple, which transitioned from curved to flat edges with the iPhone 12, this change will be controversial due to user preferences. Flat edges not only alter the device’s aesthetics but also its usability. Some people prefer the hand feel of the current models and might find the transition challenging.
