The strong resurgence of Sony: signs a long-term agreement with Qualcomm for its Xperia smartphones

Sony is the prime example that having the best camera sensors doesn’t necessarily mean having the best photography. For years, the camera sensors on Sony’s mobile phones have been top-notch, but when it comes to computational photography (whether intentional or not), it has always lacked that special touch seen in others like Samsung or Google. Now, Qualcomm and Sony have reached an agreement to collaborate on Snapdragon platforms.

With this partnership, Sony ensures that its upcoming smartphones will feature the best chips in the market released by Qualcomm. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 itself testifies to this claim with its incredible performance and energy efficiency, allowing devices like the Galaxy S23 Ultra to achieve a day and a half of battery life without breaking a sweat.

Qualcomm and Sony’s goal is to bring their chips to the next generation of Japanese mid-range, high-end, and premium smartphones. O.H. Kwon, Senior Vice President of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies and President of Qualcomm Asia-Pacific (APAC), expressed their satisfaction in continuing to work with a long-standing partner like Sony to offer the next generation of premium mobile technologies to consumers. Sony has showcased great performance capabilities in its latest Xperia smartphones thanks to chips like the aforementioned Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

The Xperia 1 V is a fascinating Android mobile phone that stands out for its cameras, with a telephoto lens capable of offering two zoom levels, as well as other details such as its sound quality and lightweight design. It also features the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, which offers advantages in terms of battery life and performance, as mentioned in its use in Samsung’s latest flagship.

There are still some areas where Sony needs to work, such as the fingerprint sensor placement or the absence of an included charger in the box. Additionally, its 30W fast charging falls within the same range as Samsung’s flagships. Nevertheless, Sony has always struggled to excel in all aspects since its early Xperia models, so it is expected that with this collaboration, they will be able to achieve excellence in one of their upcoming flagships. Sony has the experience, resources, and access to the latest technology provided by Qualcomm with their excellent Snapdragon chips.
