NVIDIA has released the highly anticipated RTX 4060 graphics cards starting at 335 euros, but they fail to convince gamers

They will be the only RTX cards that many people can afford, but it seems like we are taking a step down compared to the previous generation.

The RTX 4060 and RTX 4060 Ti entry-level graphics cards are the only RTX cards that many people will be able to afford, but they seem to be a step back compared to the previous generation. Despite numerous rumors and leaks, the new “budget-friendly” cards have arrived with prices starting at 335 euros, but they leave gamers feeling disappointed due to their perceived regression compared to the previous generation.

NVIDIA has unveiled three models today: the RTX 4060 with 8 GB of VRAM priced at 335 euros, the RTX 4060 Ti with 8 GB priced at 449 euros, and an RTX 4060 Ti with 16 GB priced at 559 euros.

A couple of years ago, these were considered mid-range prices rather than entry-level. However, the issue is not only the price increase but also the reduction in hardware capabilities.

The new RTX 4060 and 4060 Ti have some notable differences

he first issue is that they feature less graphics memory compared to the previous generation. While the RTX 3060 had 12 GB of RAM, the RTX 4060 has been reduced to 8 GB. There is also an RTX 4060 Ti model with 8 GB of VRAM.

Modern games are increasingly demanding more VRAM, and some are experiencing performance issues due to this limitation. This has been evident in recent titles like Hogwarts Legacy and Star Wars: Jedi Survivor.

On the other hand, NVIDIA themselves state on their website that the target for these cards is to play at 1080p with more than 60 fps, whereas in the previous generation, the RTX 3060 aimed to handle games at 1440p.

Indeed, they do have a significant advantage: the DLSS 3 technology, which allows them to double the performance compared to the previous generation, as seen in the previous graph. However, it is not advisable to rely solely on the AI-generated supersampling rather than the actual image quality. Additionally, only a few games currently support DLSS 3.

In terms of specifications, the RTX 4060 features 3072 CUDA Cores with a clock speed of up to 2.46 GHz, and 8 GB of GDDR6 memory. It has a 128-bit memory interface and connects to the PCIe 4.0 slot. It has an HDMI 2.1a connector and three DisplayPort 1.4a ports.

The RTX 4060 Ti offers 4352 CUDA Cores, a clock speed of up to 2.54 GHz, and 8 or 16 GB of GDDR6 memory. It also has a 128-bit memory interface and connects to the PCIe 4.0 slot. It has an HDMI 2.1a connector and three DisplayPort 1.4a ports.

The RTX 4060 with 8 GB of VRAM is priced at 335 euros and will be available for purchase on May 24th. The RTX 4060 Ti with 8 GB is priced at 449 euros, and the RTX 4060 Ti with 16 GB is priced at 559 euros. The latter two models will be released in July.
