Few modern mobile phones have managed to divide enthusiasts as much as the Nothing Phone (1); but that’s because most manufacturers play it safe. Nothing dared to do something different, even if it meant that their first smartphone wasn’t for everyone.
That’s why the Nothing Phone (1) was one of the most significant launches last year: because it was a different phone, not necessarily due to flashy features like the integrated lighting on the back or the striking minimalist design of its Android-based interface.
But the Nothing Phone (1) had its flaws, typical of a young manufacturer, and that’s why the second model is highly anticipated. It’s time for Nothing to show that they are serious and truly committed to a different Android experience, beyond appearances.
We will find out all of that on July 11th, which has been confirmed as the official presentation date for the Nothing Phone (2). It will be then when all the details of a mobile phone that may have more to prove than its predecessor will be revealed.
As usual for the company founded by Carl Pei, the brand plays with mystery, with misleading photographs that don’t fully reveal the device. And as usual as well, it’s not clear if the presence of an animal has anything to do with the device or if it’s just there to distract; in any case, this time it’s an octopus.
Therefore, we can only rely on rumors and leaks to learn more about this device, and everything indicates that it will be quite similar to its predecessor. To begin with, although the design of the back has changed, it follows the same design lines, displaying a “mechanized” and futuristic look that also lights up, as shown in the teaser published by Nothing. Perhaps more disappointing is the fact that the camera setup is very similar, although it may appear slightly larger, suggesting a change in the sensors used.
We know a bit more about the technical details. Carl Pei proudly announced that they had reached an agreement with Qualcomm to use a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 in the new Phone (2). Therefore, while it won’t be the most powerful Android phone on the market by any means, it should at least represent a significant leap compared to the Snapdragon 778G+ used in the previous model. This also implies that the price should be reasonable, although it’s not clear if it will aim for the 469 euros of the Phone (1).
The presentation of the Nothing Phone (2) will take place on Tuesday, July 11th, at 17:00, and it can be viewed through the Nothing website.
