Nothing changes its strategy with headphones and announces two new devices

Nothing has confirmed changes in its audio product range, with which it intends to make choosing new products easier.

Although Nothing is now one of the most interesting mobile brands in the Android sector, with the launch of the Nothing Phone (2) and the new Nothing Phone (2a), it is worth remembering that the company did not start by making mobile phones.

In fact, the device that Carl Pei chose to present his new company after OnePlus was not a mobile phone, but wireless headphones. At the time, it was a surprising move, although in hindsight, it was understandable and partly, brilliant.

With the Nothing Ear (1), Nothing wanted to send a message to the public and the market, with an affordable product accessible to everyone but that presented the philosophy that all the brand’s products would follow thereafter.

Nothing renews its headphones

That’s why today’s announcement from Nothing is more important than it seems; the company has decided to implement changes in its audio product range, the first it launched, to make it more accessible and easier to understand.

To achieve this, Nothing has decided to change the nomenclature of its devices and will remove the numbers from the names. Therefore, the next wireless earbuds will not be the Nothing Ear (3) as previously expected; the headphone range will be simplified into a basic device and another more complete one.

Nothing has confirmed that this year it will launch two devices from the Ear range: the new Nothing Ear and the new Nothing Ear (a). Although one might think that the “a” models are the cheaper ones and the normal Ear models are the ‘premium’, the company actually states that its goal is to offer ‘premium’ to everyone regardless of price; and that the difference between the devices will be a matter of each user’s preference.

Removing the numbers from the models also likely means that Nothing will not change the name of the device with each generation. The Nothing Ear will always be called that, regardless of whether a new generation comes out in a year or two; although it is possible that, like Apple, they differentiate the models by their generations or by the year of release.

The new Nothing Ear is expected to be announced on the upcoming 18th of April, when the company prepares an announcement for its community of fans. In addition to the headphones, there are also rumors of other devices from the brand, as well as the sub-brand CMF by Nothing, although the company has not confirmed anything at the moment.
