The new range of Lenovo ThinkPad laptops are now much easier to repair, with a rating of 9 out of 10 by iFixit
Contrary to what has been done for some years by companies like Apple or Samsung, Lenovo has opted for repairability with its new generation of ThinkPad laptops. We are talking about the ThinkPad L and ThinkPad X series, which come with the latest from Intel and AMD to provide them with the latest features oriented towards artificial intelligence and connectivity. Without setting a precedent, the company has also confirmed the price and availability of all versions in our country, as we will see later on.
That’s right. The new range of Lenovo’s ThinkPad devices demonstrates an improvement in repairability to reduce electronic waste generation, according to the company itself. Among the most notable features of the new models, ThinkPad L14 Gen 5 and L16 Gen 1, is the ease of access to their components, supported by iFixit, which has awarded them a high preliminary score of 9 out of 10.
Specifically, the company states that it has identified improvements in design and manufacturing to enable users to repair and upgrade their devices easily. Expert groups point out that efforts have been made to facilitate the acquisition of User Replaceable Units (CRUs), such as DIMM, keyboard, SSD, and WWAN, helping to extend the laptops’ lifespan.
Improvements are also found in the accessibility department. In collaboration with Microsoft’s accessibility team, Lenovo has incorporated new tactile guides into the keyboard design to enhance recognition, thus setting new standards in the industry.
The latest models in Lenovo’s ThinkPad L and X13 series feature a range of design improvements. These new devices are available in various formats, including standard 13-inch and 2-in-1 options, as well as 14 and 16-inch models in the ThinkPad L16 series, especially designed for users seeking portability. All panels have a 16:10 aspect ratio to increase productivity by presenting a more square diagonal that allows for multi-window usage. Additionally, the 2-in-1 version of both series supports Lenovo’s stylus, which integrates with major design and photo editing applications.
Speaking of design, the improvements in the rear thermal slots ensure more efficient cooling during prolonged use. As for specifications, Lenovo’s proposal for this 2024 is powered by Intel Core Ultra processors compatible with Intel vPro and AMD Ryzen Pro 7030 Series in the ThinkPad L14 Gen 5 and L16 Gen 1 models, along with Windows 11 and Copilot features, which will arrive at some point this year. Furthermore, the collaboration with Intel supports over a hundred applications with AI-based features, including tools like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Adobe Lightroom, and Studio Effects, among others.
Additionally, the laptops feature memory capacities of up to 64 GB RAM and 2 TB of M.2 SSD storage. Although the company has not detailed the specifications of each version, some selected models offer support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, and 4G LTE or 5G connectivity, expanding the available connection options, based on HDMI 2.1, Thunderbolt 4, and traditional USB ports. We also have Dolby Audio Premium and Dolby Voice standards for compatible content playback and video calls.
