Motorola Razr 40 and 40 Ultra: Motorola’s new foldable phones are all about the screen

Although there was little room for surprise after so many leaks, today we have finally learned about the new foldable phones from Motorola, and it has been confirmed what we had been anticipating: the American brand has made a real statement in the foldable market.

The Motorola Razr 40 Ultra is the new flagship. This phone, which is the thinnest foldable smartphone on the market when closed, features a 3.6-inch OLED display with 144 Hz on the outer part of the phone. To fully utilize it, Motorola has released a bunch of customizable widgets —contacts, news, navigation, or music— that can be conveniently accessed without needing to open the phone. In fact, they have even launched a collection of optimized games for this format. Underneath that small screen, we will encounter a much larger one, adorned with a beautiful 6.9-inch OLED panel with 165 Hz.

Inside the phone, we find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor. While it may not be the most powerful processor from Qualcomm, it is already quite optimized and promises reasonable power consumption for the performance it offers. It will be accompanied by 8/12 GB of RAM and 256/512 GB of storage.

Where this smartphone may fall a bit short on paper is in the battery department. The Razr 40 Ultra will come with a 3800 mAh battery, which is slightly lower compared to its counterparts like the Samsung Z Flip 4, which offers up to 4400 mAh. The phone features 30W fast charging and 5W wireless charging.

Lastly, there are no major surprises in terms of the camera setup, consistent with the leaks. The Razr 40 Ultra will come with a 12 MP primary sensor with optical stabilization, along with a 13 MP ultra-wide sensor and a 32 MP selfie camera.

Alongside the Razr 40 Ultra, its smaller sibling, the Razr 40, will also be released. This more modest version of Motorola features the same size of the interior display (in this case, 144 Hz) and the same hinge system as the Ultra, but there is a noticeable change in the size of its external display.

Inside the Razr 40, we will find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. The battery, this time, is slightly larger, at 4200 mAh.

Lastly, the camera setup will also change slightly, with a 64 MP primary lens, a 13 MP wide-angle and macro lens, and the same 32 MP selfie camera.

Both phones will come with Android 13 and will have some other common features, such as Dolby Atmos sound and Bluetooth 5.3.
