That’s right. What initially seemed like an isolated issue in the early morning has gradually become a widespread problem affecting hundreds of users, at the time of writing. What are we referring to? Instagram login problems. Apparently, the app is not allowing access through the usual methods (email, phone number, Facebook social profile, etc.). It is also not operational when trying to send the verification code necessary to log in to Instagram, an issue that has been reported for a few days, coinciding with the launch of Threads in the United States.
Since the early hours of this morning, the platform downdetector has started to collect reports from users regarding Instagram. Although the impact seems to be moderate, the social media platform is not allowing some users to log in on their devices. This problem appears to be affecting both Android and iOS devices, as well as the Desktop version for browsers. In other words, it doesn’t depend on a specific app version but rather on the service itself.
Most of the affected individuals have stated that they cannot log in to Instagram using the usual methods. The same issue arises when trying to input the verification code sent by the app for two-factor authentication: either the code never arrives, or it is not recognized by the system. Additionally, some social media posts refer to a method to “recover your Instagram account” through Telegram, but this is likely an attempt at smishing. It is essential to stay away from such methods, as they could result in partial or complete loss of our account.
Gradually, this problem has spread to other countries, suggesting that it is a widespread outage. The company has not yet commented on the issue, but it is expected that it will be resolved in the next few hours. It could be a momentary server overload for Meta or a security vulnerability exploited by third parties.
