HONOR understands that one of the primary features we consider when buying a mobile phone is the camera. Even when opting for a more basic smartphone, we usually look for at least the capability to take impressive photos. That’s why the HONOR X8A boasts a good 100MP primary camera, promising excellent daytime photography. However, it’s important to note that it may not perform as well in low-light conditions or dark environments. Alongside this sensor, there’s also an ultra-wide-angle camera that’s useful for capturing wide shots of buildings, large groups, or landscapes and works as a depth sensor for portrait photos with a bokeh effect. The third sensor is a macro camera, which is limited in quality and mainly for close-up detail shots.
The HONOR X8A features a large 6.7-inch screen. While it’s not an enormous size, it’s one of the larger displays you’ll find in the current market. The phone uses an LCD panel (considering its price, it’s rare to have an AMOLED screen) with Full HD resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. This allows for smoother animations when navigating menus, launching apps, and even in games that support the higher refresh rate.
Powering this mobile is a MediaTek processor, and despite the previous reputation of the brand, they have improved their chips, now offering reliable and efficient options for the mid-range market. This chip is paired with 6GB of RAM, which can be expanded by an additional 3GB through HONOR Turbo RAM technology. The internal storage capacity is 128GB, which is in line with what’s commonly found in the current market.
One of HONOR’s trademarks is adding a touch of brilliance to their designs, and the HONOR X8A is no exception. The phone is available in three colors: black, silver, and cyan blue. In all cases, there are shiny accents on the back that give it a distinctive look. The cyan blue color, in particular, stands out as it’s not commonly found in the market. In addition to its color options, the company has worked to keep slim bezels on the sides of the screen, resulting in a 93% screen-to-body ratio. The effort to achieve an attractive and slim design is also reflected in the weight; the HONOR X8A is a lightweight device, weighing just 178 grams. However, to achieve this lightweight design, HONOR had to compromise on the battery. The phone is equipped with a relatively small 4,500mAh battery, whereas the standard for a screen of this size and price range is around 5,000mAh. You should be able to use the phone all day without needing to charge it, but it may not be one of those phones that you can forget about charging regularly.
Regarding its charging capabilities, HONOR has incorporated 22.5W fast charging technology, which is slightly faster than standard charging but not the fastest available in the market.
The HONOR X8A is now available for purchase in stores at an official price of 200 euros, although we’ve already found some offers that let you buy it for 180 euros. In summary, it’s a phone that knows its strengths, with a strong focus on its photography capabilities (a feature that we often pay close attention to when buying a mobile phone). It pairs this with an attractive design available in three different colors to match your style. However, the trade-off for achieving this slim and lightweight design is the smaller battery, which falls slightly short of what’s typical for mid-range phones in this price range.
