First official images of the Google Pixel Fold, the foldable phone to compete with Samsung

It was already known by everyone that Google was going to make a foldable phone. The so-called Pixel Fold that had been leaking for weeks was practically an open secret in the technology world. However, and with just under a week to go until the next Google I/O in 2023, the company surprised everyone by officially announcing the Pixel Fold.

No leaks, no rumors. This is completely official. Through its Twitter and Instagram accounts, Google has revealed the new Pixel Fold, its first foldable phone, and the most surprising thing is that it almost perfectly matches everything that had been leaked previously.

In an 8-second teaser, Google has revealed the complete design of this new phone, destined to compete in a market currently dominated by Samsung but which is being joined by different manufacturers. The most notable thing about these first images is the triple camera module on the back, the chromed edges, and a spectacular foldable inner screen that seems to have very underutilized edges.

The Pixel Fold is real

Suddenly, and using the context of May 4th, Google published the teaser for its first foldable, revealing that the upcoming Google I/O will be the stage where the company officially presents the device. A device that, for the moment and as expressed by Google, has not been authorized by the regulations of the FCC of the United States. Therefore, it still has to go through the relevant regulations.

Why this date? It’s a wordplay. May 4th is a reason for celebration for Star Wars fans because of the phrase “May the Force be with you,” Fans chose it by playing with the phrase May the 4th be with you.” Well, Google has changed the word “Force” and “Fourth” to Fold.

If we stick to the leaks, the Pixel Fold will have a 7.6-inch internal display and a 5.8-inch external display. The chosen processor will be the Google Tensor G2, the same one found in the Google Pixel 7 and will also be present in the Pixel 7a. In fact, it is reasonable to think that this phone will also be released alongside the Pixel Fold. However, the external screen of the phone has not yet been seen.

Aesthetically, Google has opted for an unpopular decision. While the exterior of the device is very premium, the Pixel Fold has quite prominent screen borders, apparently because the company has opted for classic borders instead of cutting the screen with a camera hole. Again, this was expected according to the leaks, but still noteworthy.

Pixel Fold

The Pixel Fold is not the only device expected from Google. Alongside it, users are eagerly awaiting the Google Pixel 7a and their Pixel Tablet, their first tablet in the Pixel range presented last year, which promises to be a rival to Apple’s iPads.
