Android 14 is still being polished, and while that happens, many doubts have arisen about which mobile devices will officially receive this new operating system version and when. The Poco X3 and X3 Pro are waiting, and that’s why many users are wondering when they will receive the update. However, before thinking about that, it is necessary to determine if they will actually get it, as Xiaomi’s update support is not usually the most generous. Additionally, we have to remember that we are dealing with two devices that are over two years old. So, to clear up any doubts, let’s see if there will be Android 14 for the Poco X3 and X3 Pro.
Currently, Android 14 is in beta form. It will not be until August or September that its final and official version will be released. At the moment, only some Xiaomi and Poco mobile devices and users can access the beta version through the Mi Pilot program, as it is not yet available openly or globally.
It is expected to arrive alongside MIUI 14 on Xiaomi and Poco devices, at least initially. However, not all devices that receive MIUI 14 will also receive Android 14, and this may leave the Poco X3 and X3 Pro out of the picture…
The Poco X3 was launched in mid-2020 with Android 10 under MIUI 12, and it currently runs on Android 12 with MIUI 13. The Poco X3 Pro, on the other hand, was released a little later, in March of the following year, with Android 11 under MIUI 12, and it now has Android 13 with MIUI 14.
Xiaomi’s update policy usually does not provide devices with more than two major updates. This means that Xiaomi and Poco devices generally receive, at most, two Android updates. Therefore, both the Poco X3 and X3 Pro will no longer receive any more major updates and will remain on Android 12 with MIUI 13 and Android 13 with MIUI 14, respectively.
Of course, it is possible that they may receive a few more updates in the near future (the final ones, if any), but these would be minor updates with bug fixes and various optimizations. However, in terms of Android 14, they will not be updated officially.
As mentioned earlier, Android 14 will not be officially available for the Poco X3 and X3 Pro. However, there may be a way to obtain this new software version, and that is through LineageOS.
LineageOS is a very popular fork of Android that can bring Android 14 to the Poco X3 and X3 Pro. Essentially, it is a custom ROM created by third-party developers that utilizes the Android source code. Currently, there is no version of LineageOS with Android 14, as it needs to wait for the final version to be released, which is expected to be in late August or early September.
However, it is not entirely certain that there will be a LineageOS version with Android 14 for the Poco X3 and X3 Pro. Typically, LineageOS is only released for certain models of mobile devices, so we have to wait for Android 14 to be available. Once that happens, it may take a few weeks or months for a LineageOS version with Android 14 to become available for both devices.
Keep in mind that some versions of LineageOS may come with errors, bugs, performance issues, and various battery-related problems. Additionally, there is no official support to assist you with these issues. Fortunately, as this open-source operating system is developed by a large community of developers, it is expected to receive constant updates with improvements and optimizations after the release of its latest versions.
